THE ORIGIN OF TEA

The origin of tea is rooted in legend, beginning with Chinese Emperor Shennong, who is said to have discovered tea in 2737 BC when leaves accidentally fell into his boiling water, creating a refreshing drink. Another tale links tea to Bodhidharma, the Buddhist monk who, struggling to stay awake during meditation, either drank tea or inspired its growth, helping monks remain alert.

Tea’s journey to Europe is credited to Catherine of Braganza, the Portuguese princess who became Queen of England in the 17th century. Her love of tea made it fashionable at the English court, sparking a tradition that would shape British culture for generations.

Whether you’re seeking your perfect cup or simply exploring the art of tea, understanding tea types is the ideal place to begin. These graceful categories bring clarity to the vast world of leaves, infusions, and aromas that define the tea experience.

Much like fragrance families, tea types are thoughtful groupings, organized by processing method, flavor profile, and character. Think of them as curated genres in the symphony of steeped ritual, each offering a distinct story in every cup.

There are nine key types to discover: Green Tea, Yellow Tea, White Tea, Black Tea, Oolong Tea, Pu-erh Tea, Rooibos Tea, Herbal Infusions, and Fruit Infusions. Each carries its own personality, from light and floral to bold, earthy, or naturally sweet.

Most of us find ourselves instinctively drawn to certain types while overlooking others, and that’s the beauty of tea. Shall we explore which blend speaks to you?

GREEN TEA

Green tea comes from the leaves of Camellia sinensis, carefully steamed or pan-heated shortly after harvesting to prevent oxidation and preserve its vibrant green color and natural freshness. This gentle processing allows the leaf to retain its bright, grassy character and delicate vegetal nuances.

Fresh, luminous, and softly invigorating, our Green Tea blend pairs Sencha with Spirulina and Ginkgo Biloba for a naturally vibrant foundation. Sweet mango and earthy beetroot add depth, while rose petals and blue cornflower introduce a light floral elegance. Subtle notes of mint and chocolate drops complete the composition, creating a refreshing and balanced infusion that feels both uplifting and quietly refined.

YELLOW TEA

Yellow tea comes from the leaves of Camellia sinensis and is produced through a rare and delicate process known as “sealing yellow,” where the leaves undergo gentle heating followed by a slow, controlled oxidation. This careful technique softens the sharper vegetal notes found in green tea, allowing the leaves to develop a smoother and more rounded character.

Soft, warm, and subtly sweet, yellow tea reveals a mellow flavor with a refined, silky finish. Its delicate nature evokes calm and quiet elegance, offering a soothing infusion that unfolds slowly on the palate, perfect for moments of reflection and understated indulgence.

WHITE TEA

White tea comes from the young leaves and buds of Camellia sinensis, harvested early and gently air-dried with minimal processing. This delicate method preserves the leaf’s natural sweetness and subtle floral character, offering one of the purest expressions of tea.

Light, graceful, and softly aromatic, our White Tea blend combines Pai Mu Tan leaves with candied ginger and bright pineapple for a delicate balance of sweetness and freshness. Goji berries and lemongrass bring a lively nuance, while rose petals, calendula, and mallow add tender floral softness, creating a serene infusion that feels refined, calming, and effortlessly elegant.

OOLONG TEA

Oolong tea comes from the leaves of Camellia sinensis and is partially oxidized through a traditional process that places it between green and black tea in both character and complexity. After withering, the leaves are gently tossed or shaken to lightly bruise their edges, encouraging controlled oxidation before being heated and carefully rolled to preserve their structure and layered aroma.

Smooth and balanced, our Oolong Tea blend combines Oolong Se Chung Blue leaves with bright orange peel and the delicate floral sweetness of orange blossom. The result is a graceful infusion with soft citrus brightness and gentle floral warmth, offering a refined and layered experience that unfolds slowly with each sip.

BLACK TEA

Black tea comes from the leaves of Camellia sinensis and undergoes full oxidation, a process that transforms the leaves and develops their deep color and robust flavor. This traditional method gives black tea its rich body, lively character, and warm, comforting depth.

Bold and expressive, our Black Tea blend pairs rich tea leaves with zesty orange peel and the warm spice of cardamom. Gentle hints of cookie crumbs introduce a nostalgic sweetness, creating a smooth and inviting infusion that feels both vibrant and comforting, lingering softly with every sip.

PU-ERH TEA

Pu-erh tea comes from the leaves of Camellia sinensis and undergoes a unique fermentation and aging process that continues to develop its character over time. Traditionally produced in China’s Yunnan province, the tea is carefully processed and matured, allowing its flavor to deepen and evolve with remarkable complexity.

Deep, earthy, and velvety, our Pu-erh Tea blend pairs bold red leaves with the indulgent warmth of dark and white chocolate. The result is a rich and enveloping infusion with smooth depth and lingering warmth, offering a luxurious moment of quiet indulgence.

ROOIBOS TEA

Rooibos comes from the leaves of Aspalathus linearis, a plant native to the rugged mountains of South Africa’s Cederberg region. Naturally caffeine-free, the leaves are harvested, bruised, and oxidized, a process that transforms their green color into a rich reddish hue and develops their signature smooth, rounded flavor.

Soft, warm, and gently sweet, rooibos reveals notes of honey, sun-dried hay, and subtle earthiness. Its infusion is naturally low in bitterness, offering a comforting, full-bodied character with a velvety finish. Often enjoyed on its own or blended with spices, fruits, or florals, rooibos brings a sense of calm and warmth, like the glow of late afternoon sunlight captured in a cup.

HERBAL INFUSION

Herbal infusions are crafted from a variety of herbs, flowers, fruits, and botanicals rather than the leaves of Camellia sinensis. Naturally caffeine-free, they are gently dried and blended without oxidation, allowing each ingredient to preserve its pure aroma and soothing character.

Soft, comforting, and naturally aromatic, our Herbal Infusion blends raisins, apple, and blackberry leaf with the gentle warmth of pumpkin and sliced almonds. Chamomile, valerian, lavender, and lemon balm weave a calming tapestry of floral and herbal notes, creating a peaceful infusion designed to relax the senses and invite quiet moments of balance and rest.

Fruit infusions are created from carefully selected dried fruits, flowers, and spices rather than tea leaves, making them naturally caffeine-free. Gently dried to preserve their vibrant aromas and flavors, these blends offer bright, naturally sweet infusions that highlight the lively character of each ingredient.

Vibrant and refreshing, our Fruit Infusion combines hibiscus, rose hips, and juicy mango with the mellow sweetness of apple and pineapple. Warm touches of cinnamon, star anise, and cardamom add depth, while coconut chips and cornflower petals bring softness and color, creating a joyful, lively infusion that is both uplifting and delicious.
